What it does
The South Carolina Encyclopedia combines reference essays with photographs, documents, video and audio, browsable by category, period and location.
County and time-period browsing are useful when the historical name is not yet known. Once an essay identifies a topic, its accompanying media can provide another kind of source to inspect. The digital edition builds on the 2006 print encyclopedia with material from partner institutions.
Keep the individual essay’s edition/update context and the separate media credit when using both in a project.
