What it does
Schematic combines credit wallets, metering, feature allowances and versioned product plans for usage-based billing. Teams can change the offer for new customers while preserving selected existing subscriptions. A free Starter plan covers up to $5,000 in monthly billing volume and two custom plans; larger operations can move to paid service.
Schematic gives a pricing change an explicit rollout. Editing a published plan creates a draft, so new limits or prices can be reviewed before they affect customers. The published version is the one used for new checkouts.
In Plans, choose Create Plan, add the name and billing setup, then add the features and allowances the plan grants. A feature might be a simple permission or a measured quantity with a limit. Stripe integration connects the billing configuration to the matching products and prices.
When the draft is ready, select Publish version and review the changes. The current subscriber choices are:
- Migrate all: move existing companies to the new version, applying the new price and allowances.
- Choose which companies: select who moves and leave the remainder on their current version.
- Keep all: preserve all existing companies and use the new version for new checkouts.
The plan's Migrations tab shows progress and allows later moves between versions. A negotiated custom plan can instead be scoped to one company without changing the standard offer.
Stripe mapping deserves attention during setup. Each company needs the correct Stripe customer identifier, and each environment has its own connection. New plan versions create new Stripe prices while keeping older prices intact. That preserves the terms of customers who have not migrated.
Schematic service plans
| Plan | Published cost and limits |
|---|---|
| Starter | Free, up to $5,000 monthly billing volume and 2 custom plans |
| Growth | $400 per month; up to 15 custom plans, 20 overrides and unlimited customers |
| Enterprise | Custom volume-based or flat pricing; uncapped custom plans and overrides, additional access controls and service commitments |
Schematic prices on revenue billed through the platform and lists no extra charge for event ingestion or platform access. Connected payment services have their own arrangements.
Signup supports Google, GitHub or email. The account's Quickstart > Generate Sample Data creates a demonstration customer, plan and features. Engineers can create credentials under Settings > API Keys for the programming interface (API).
Plans without Stripe can still manage membership, but lack the same checkout, trial and usage-billing support. A company can have only one base plan at a time; use add-ons or negotiated exceptions for the additional terms it needs.
Strengths
- Plan drafts keep proposed changes separate from published customer terms.
- Subscriber migration can include everyone, selected companies or no existing companies.
- Stripe price versions preserve the rates of subscribers who remain on older plans.
Watch out for
- A company can have only one base plan at a time.
- Plans without Stripe have more limited checkout, trial and usage-billing support.
- Custom-plan and override allowances are capped below Enterprise.
Best for
- Software teams changing pricing for new and existing subscribers
- Businesses with negotiated customer exceptions
- Teams connecting paid feature access to Stripe billing
