What it does
Scid vs. PC manages chess-game databases and supports engine analysis and computer play. It is an independently developed fork of Scid.
Use it when you want to keep a local collection of games and examine them with a chess engine. Its database and comparison tools suit more detailed study than a single online board. Installation and builds differ by operating system, so follow the project’s matching download instructions.
The project’s Mac guidance is narrower than its desktop label suggests: it targets Intel processors and warns about 64-bit and Tcl/Tk problems. Linux source builds need Tcl/Tk and a C++ compiler. Check that installation route before moving a study collection across computers.
Watch out for
- Mac builds target Intel and have documented 64-bit and Tcl/Tk limitations
Best for
- Studying a local chess-game database
