What it does

Scotiabank offers Canadian mobile and online banking for cheque deposits, bills and account access. Its digital guides distinguish phone and browser controls. Paid everyday accounts sit alongside a fee-free Preferred Package for eligible students and young people.

Pay a bill in the Scotia app

  1. Open Move money → Pay bills under Payments.
  2. Select the paying account and a saved payee, or add a new payee.
  3. Enter the amount and date; choose Once for frequency.
  4. Review the details, then Slide to pay.

Recurring payments can run weekly, every two weeks or monthly, either ongoing or for a set number of payments. Scotiabank advises choosing a date at least three days before the bill is due. Paying from a credit card or line of credit is treated as a cash advance and accrues interest immediately.

Account fees and who can apply

The Basic Bank Account costs C$3.95 a month and includes 18 transactions. Extra debit transactions can cost more, including Interac e-Transfers once that allowance is used. Monthly-fee waivers apply to qualifying groups.

The Preferred Package for Students and Youth has no monthly fee and includes unlimited debit and Interac e-Transfer transactions. It is available to people under 25 living in Canada, or qualifying full-time students aged 25 and over enrolled in a Canadian or US postsecondary program. Older students must provide proof of enrollment.

Applicants aged 16 or over can apply online; younger applicants use a branch. Have accepted identification ready, such as a government-issued photo ID. Scotiabank does not require a minimum opening deposit for personal deposit accounts.
