Security Onion combines several investigation layers: network alerts, protocol metadata, packet capture and host events. Its own interfaces then support hunting and case management over that evidence. That integration is the reason to consider the platform rather than installing each component without a shared workflow. Plan sensor placement and data retention before deploying a grid. The included tools have different purposes, and a platform operator still needs to decide who investigates findings and maintains the deployment.
