What it does
SelfCAD combines 3D modelling, sculpting, rendering and slicing with browser and desktop access. Its Combine tool separates object organisation from changes to the geometry. Registration starts a ten-day trial, followed by continuing limited Free access; Pro is a paid subscription.
To combine existing objects, select them in the workspace or use the searchable Object Management panel. Open Utilities > Combine, or use U+O. The left-hand Tool Setting Panel offers three different outcomes.
Group makes one manageable unit while preserving the option to Ungroup. Merge collects profiles into one object without fusing their topology into a single mesh. Its Cut Intersections option adds vertices where profile edges cross. Union instead joins intersecting objects and removes internal overlap geometry. For separate parts that still need moving, Group preserves that flexibility; Union changes the actual mesh.
An existing STL can enter through File > Import or by being dropped into the workspace. The application also provides interactive tutorials. Browser projects, offline desktop storage and hybrid synchronisation are different storage routes, so a project can stay local or participate in the connected workflow according to the chosen access.
Registration begins with ten days of trial access, then the account becomes a limited Free account unless upgraded. Pro is a paid subscription. Mobile browsers can run SelfCAD, but the FAQ does not offer a dedicated mobile app.
Strengths
- Group, Merge and Union provide distinct organisation and geometry outcomes.
- Cut Intersections adds useful vertices when combining profiles.
Watch out for
- Grouping does not remove internal overlap geometry.
- Free access has fewer tools than the initial ten-day trial.
Best for
- Combining drawn or imported profiles
- Organising components before deciding which meshes to fuse
