What it does
Hybrid is a Qt frontend to media-processing tools. It supports separate audio, video, and filter profiles, chapter and subtitle handling, and queued conversion jobs.
Separate profiles help reuse an audio setup while changing the video encoder or filtering chain. Hybrid can also pass through audio and video for muxing or chapter work. The developer explicitly targets users who already understand containers and codecs, so this is a configuration tool for deliberate workflows rather than an introductory conversion wizard.
Hybrid itself is free for personal use, with redistribution requiring the author's written permission. Its dependencies have their own licences, so free personal access should not be read as permission to redistribute the package. Audio/video passthrough supports muxing, tags and chapter edits, while filtering and re-encoding use the selected backend. AviSynth filtering is Windows-only in the feature list.
Strengths
- Separates audio, video, and filtering configurations for reuse.
Watch out for
- The developer expects prior knowledge of media containers and formats.
Best for
- Advanced transcoding with reusable component profiles
