What it does

SendPortal manages subscribers, templates, campaigns and message tracking in a self-hosted email marketing application. Its MIT-licensed software connects to an email delivery provider and runs on its own or within a Laravel application. You manage a local account, hosting and delivery costs.

SendPortal's Queue Draft sending option creates the individual messages without dispatching them. That is useful for a small, heavily personalised announcement where each recipient's rendered message needs inspection. Automatic sending is the alternative, and the documentation specifically discourages the draft queue for large subscriber lists. Both start with a configured delivery service, subscribers and campaign content; open and click tracking also require the provider's webhooks.

For separate projects, open your username menu and choose Workspaces to create a named workspace. Each workspace has its own subscribers and campaigns, and the owner controls member invitations. A publisher could keep a podcast and a personal newsletter in different workspaces while switching between them from the same account.

V4 requires PHP 8.3 or newer. Its setup utility creates a local user and workspace; scheduled tasks and the selected queue system then handle dispatch. SendPortal is MIT-licensed software to operate yourself; the connected delivery provider and server are additional operational choices.

To compose an issue, open Campaigns, choose New Campaign and enter the subject, sender and content. Save and Continue opens the draft preview, where Send Test Email sends a copy to the address in Recipient before you select the audience and schedule.

Strengths

  • Queue Draft permits individual message inspection before dispatch
  • Workspaces separate the subscriber lists and campaigns of different projects

Watch out for

  • Queue Draft is not recommended for large subscriber lists
  • Tracking depends on delivery-service webhooks and sending needs configured workers

Best for

  • Technical newsletter operators who want project separation and control of campaign dispatch
