What it does

Sharesies combines self-directed investing and advised portfolios with KiwiSaver and other money services in New Zealand. Investors can choose companies, ETFs and managed funds, then create recurring orders. Each product retains its own fees and rules within the wider account interface.

An auto-invest order can follow your chosen investments or an advised portfolio. Give it a name, choose an amount over NZ$5, and set a weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly or monthly schedule. Keep the Wallet funded so the order can run. Orders can be paused, edited or deleted, and a one-off purchase can be made between scheduled dates.

The service allows five regular auto-invest orders with up to 100 investments each, plus ten orders into advised portfolios. This separates recurring contributions to your own selections from investing under an advice arrangement. KiwiSaver remains a separate product.

Match a plan to the orders you expect

Plan Monthly or annual cost Monthly share-order coverage
$3 plan NZ$3 monthly or NZ$32.40 yearly NZ$500 buy/sell; NZ$1,000 auto-invest
$7 plan NZ$7 monthly or NZ$75.60 yearly NZ$1,000 buy/sell; NZ$3,000 auto-invest
$15 plan NZ$15 monthly or NZ$162 yearly NZ$5,000 buy/sell; NZ$10,000 auto-invest

Pay-as-you-go share dealing charges 1.9%, capped per order at US$5, A$15 or NZ$25 for the respective markets. That pricing also applies after plan coverage is exhausted. Currency conversion costs 0.5% separately, and funds have management expenses. Plans are unavailable to company, trust and partnership accounts.

The standard personal Invest account requires someone aged 16 or older living in New Zealand, with a New Zealand residential address and bank account. Account setup also requires the requested identity and tax information. Kids Accounts have separate terms.

Strengths

  • Supports recurring orders across three share markets
  • Allows separate schedules for self-selected investments and advised portfolios
  • Recurring orders can be paused or changed without rebuilding the whole account

Watch out for

  • Orders beyond a plan’s allowance revert to transaction fees
  • Company, trust and partnership accounts cannot use the monthly pricing plans

Best for

  • New Zealand residents coordinating recurring share or fund purchases
  • Investors comparing per-order charges with monthly trading allowances
