What it does
ShotStash provides free stock photography organised into themes such as business, nature, people and technology. Its CC0 guidance allows editing and commercial reuse without required credit. The site also has a separate mobile-wallpaper collection.
A photograph’s page lists its author, dimensions, file size and format above the related keywords. Hands Typing on Laptop, for example, is a 4460 × 2974 JPG listed at 1.34 MB. Choose Free Picture Download for the file, or follow a keyword such as Desk to continue searching.
ShotStash’s licence explicitly allows images in book covers and design or website resources for resale. It also warns that identifiable people and private buildings may not have releases for every commercial placement. Avoid implying that a pictured person or brand endorses the product beside the image.
Strengths
- Themed collections provide a focused route into the photo library
- Image pages disclose technical details before download
Watch out for
- Some subjects may lack model or property releases for a commercial placement
Best for
- Editors sourcing general-purpose stock photographs by theme
