What it does

Shottr is a macOS screenshot application with annotations, scrolling capture and presentation backgrounds. Gradients, shadows and rounded corners help prepare captures for design reviews, release notes or visual explanations.

Take a Fullscreen Capture, select the area you want and press Enter to crop. Add arrows, text or a spotlight, then use Add Capture to place another screenshot on the same canvas. The backdrop tool supplies gradient backgrounds, shadows and rounded corners.

Choose File → Save Image As to set a filename and location, or use Command-Shift-S. Cropping, blurring and measuring initially apply to the original screenshot. Edit → Rasterize Image merges overlays and annotations when those operations need to affect the whole composition.

Tier Payment and use
Free Ongoing personal use; purchase reminders begin after 30 days
Basic One-time licence; required for commercial use
Friends Club One-time licence with experimental features and additional support

A licence covers one user on up to five Macs. Basic cannot be upgraded to Friends Club.

For link sharing, Shottr supports its own cloud or an S3-compatible storage account. Shottr Cloud needs a separate, email-linked upload token. Shottr says cloud uploads are public to anyone who has or guesses their URL, and storage availability is not guaranteed.

Strengths

  • Text recognition can copy otherwise unselectable text and also read QR codes.
  • The screen ruler measures pixel distances; the color picker copies the pixel under the pointer with Tab.

Watch out for

  • Commercial work requires a purchased licence even though personal use can continue free.
  • Automatic scrolling capture can be unreliable in Terminal, Visual Studio Code or Finder’s Columns view; a manual scrolling option is available.

Best for

  • Mac users preparing annotated product screenshots
