What it does
SIMBAD compiles information about astronomical objects studied in scientific literature, including identifiers, positions and bibliographic references.
Search an object's name to connect alternate identifiers with published information. The bibliography provides a route beyond basic measurements. SIMBAD describes its data as a heterogeneous compilation, so keep the source and measurement context when comparing values from different observations.
SIMBAD says it should not be used as a catalogue; VizieR supplies published object lists and surveys. Its stated service licence is ODbL, and the page requests citation of the original paper.
