What it does

Skrooge is a GPL-licensed KDE personal finance manager with scheduled transactions, nested categories, imports and custom reports. It can track expected refunds and process matching transactions in batches. The software is available without a subscription, with Linux packages and Windows and Mac download options.

A reimbursement can be easy to lose among ordinary expenses. Skrooge's Trackers group the original spending with its repayment. For example, give a work-trip tracker to hotel expenses and to the employer's later reimbursement. Double-clicking the tracker opens its transactions; closing a settled tracker keeps its history available.

Import and clean up a bank history

Use File → Import to choose one or more statement files. Skrooge recognizes formats including OFX, QIF and CSV, and also imports data from several other finance applications. CSV files need recognizable Date and Amount columns; adjust mappings under Settings → Configure Skrooge → Import / Export if necessary. Imported entries initially await validation, so check them before treating them as final.

Search & Process finds transactions by conditions and can apply changes to the matching set. It is useful for correcting categories after an import. Double-click a saved query to inspect its results first. The processing panel deliberately cannot change transaction amounts or dates.

Installation and scope

Skrooge is free, open-source desktop software. Its local .skg document can contain all your accounts, without a hosted budgeting subscription. Linux users can install through their distribution or Flathub; the download page also provides nightly builds for Windows and macOS.

Attachments can keep receipts with records, and bookmarked views make recurring checks easier. Skrooge is intended for personal finances: it does not provide business tax management or double-entry accounting.
