What it does
The State Library of New South Wales provides Digital Collections for image and file browsing and a main catalogue for fuller collection research. Many digitised collection images, including high-resolution files, can be downloaded free.
Digital Collections offers visual browsing, while the main catalogue also covers material without digitised images. Open a catalogue image in its viewer and look for Use This to find available downloads. The Library asks you to check the item’s usage restrictions, even when a file is free.
If the image is unavailable to download or you need a better copy, the digital-image order form accepts up to five images. Supply each title, call number and FL preservation identifier, which appears under See in viewer > Use This. Choose a general-purpose JPEG, a 300 dpi TIFF or JPEG, or a custom specification. Standard high-resolution supply costs AUD 45 per image with a 15-business-day service; the published Australian price includes GST. Staff confirm the final cost before payment, and delivery is by email attachment or link.
Out-of-copyright images do not need the Library’s permission for reuse, but require acknowledgement. In-copyright material may need the rights holder’s permission.
