What it does
SNCF Connect combines train searches with bus, carpooling and urban-route discovery. Its site and app provide tickets, timetables and traffic information, with separate long-distance discount cards and regional transport sections.
A French trip can include a long-distance train and several local journeys. SNCF Connect distinguishes those searches instead of assuming every enquiry is for a high-speed ticket. Regional and Paris-area information have their own paths, alongside cards for different long-distance traveller groups.
If you are not ready to pay, investigate the ticket-hold option described on the homepage. It holds a seat and fare for a limited period, so establish that limit before relying on it. The app brings e-tickets, timetables and traffic information into the journey stage. Use those tools after choosing the actual departure, and keep optional hotel or car-hire links distinct from the rail reservation.
Ticket holds apply to eligible exchangeable and refundable fares, rather than every service. SNCF’s help excludes options such as OUIGO, Eurostar and TER. The confirmation gives the payment deadline; an unpaid hold expires automatically, and a hold made through SNCF Connect must be paid there.
