What it does

Snowplow's managed platform collects custom events, validates them against schemas and delivers enriched data to a warehouse, lake or stream. Modelling and analytical tools build on that event foundation.

Snowplow supplies event-level behavior data for a team's own warehouse, lake or analytical tools. Events are checked against defined schemas so malformed data can be separated before it reaches normal analysis. This suits teams that need to control what an event means and which business attributes travel with it.

A destination needs its own configuration. For example, forwarding events to Mixpanel requires the Mixpanel project ID, a service-account username and password, and the correct US, EU or India server region. Those details create the Mixpanel connection in Snowplow Console. After forwarding is configured, Mixpanel's Events view shows arriving events; Project Settings > Data & Exports provides import statistics. User identifiers and mapped properties determine how the events appear downstream.

Managed-platform pricing is quoted for event volume, hosting, consumption and destinations. The 14-day trial needs a verified account but no payment card or sales call. Its form asks for work and company details. Snowplow's separately licensed Self-Hosted Pipeline has its own commercial terms.

Strengths

  • Validates custom event schemas before downstream analysis.
  • Delivers event-level data to several warehouse, lake and stream destinations.

Watch out for

  • A useful deployment requires event modelling and a downstream data destination.

Best for

  • Data teams defining and validating behavior events for their own analytical systems
