What it does
Permute converts video, audio, images, PDFs, and other file types on Mac. Its tools include batch editing, presets, target-size controls, splitting, and individual-track extraction.
Add files to Permute's queue, choose a preset per group and start one file, a group or the full queue. Group settings apply to every member; recursive folder processing and destination hierarchy preservation are separate options. Track export can extract audio, video or supported subtitles, and the metadata editor can apply changes to originals as well as converted results. Permute 4 requires Apple Silicon and macOS 26; Permute 3 serves older supported Macs and no longer receives updates. Direct licences are permanent, while Setapp is a subscription. The App Store build needs broader filesystem permission for automatic neighbouring-subtitle detection or saving beside originals. Upgrade eligibility depends on the purchase channel/date; a v4 key does not unlock earlier versions.
