What it does
SOLIDWORKS Design is locally installed parametric CAD for parts, assemblies and associated drawings. Its included Cloud Services provide model sharing, browser review and CAD-aware file revision tools. Paid access includes named-user subscriptions and reseller-supplied perpetual device licences.
For an external review, an administrator first enables shareable links in Drives Control Center's Share with External tab. Comments need their own permission. In SOLIDWORKS, open Lifecycle and Collaboration, choose the Share a File format and activate an external sharing link. The default 3DXML representation does not expose the feature history. Enable guest comments when feedback is needed, and use the recipient restriction if only named people should have access.
The recipient opens the link in 3DPlay in a browser, where they can inspect, measure and annotate the model. Share as Comment returns an annotated snapshot to the comments panel. The author can review the captured views and revoke access from Share with External. External viewing and downloading consume a shared monthly access allowance; this is not unlimited file distribution.
Named-user licensing follows one person across devices with immediate cloud connection. Device licensing uses a local or network deployment and allows cloud activation later, with a choice of installed releases. Both provide the same CAD interface and functions.
