What it does
PDF OCR X recognizes text in image-based PDFs and images. Community and Enterprise editions are offered for desktop use.
Drag a PDF or image into the app, select Text or Searchable PDF, set the language and output folder, then convert. Text is editable but loses font styling; searchable PDF adds a text layer to the page image. Leave Overwrite PDFs off to create a copy. When enabled, that option changes the source directly and ignores the output folder, with a documented risk if conversion fails. Community is single-page; Enterprise adds multipage selection, batches and no-prompt automation with remembered settings.
Strengths
- Provides a focused desktop route from a scanned page to text.
Watch out for
- Community is limited to one page.
- Overwrite PDFs changes the source directly and ignores the output folder.
Best for
- Desktop OCR of occasional scanned pages
