What it does
SolverStudio is a Windows Excel add-in for building and solving optimization models in several modelling languages.
SolverStudio keeps a modelling-language program inside a Windows Excel workbook and exchanges data with worksheet ranges. The guide uses Edit Data for lists, indexed values or row/column-indexed tables, then Show Model to choose a language and edit its program. Solve Model runs it and writes answers back to the sheet. Saving the workbook preserves model and data definitions; reopening those definitions requires SolverStudio. Temporary model/data/result files in its working directory are deleted when Excel closes. PuLP, GMPL and IronPython are bundled, while GAMS, Gurobi and CPython have external installation/licence requirements. Some supported routes use NEOS or other remote solvers, so choose the language/engine with data location in mind.
Strengths
- Several modelling-language workflows
- Spreadsheet data can stay beside the model
Watch out for
- Some supported languages require separate installations or licences
Best for
- Optimization models built around spreadsheet data
