What it does
JPdfBookmarks edits and creates bookmarks in existing PDFs through a graphical interface or command line. Bookmarks can point to pages, webpages, or other files.
For a repeatable bookmark job, dump the existing tree to text, edit its hierarchy and apply it to a separately named output PDF. The documented format uses tabs rather than spaces for hierarchy, with optional fit, offset, colour and text-style attributes. The GUI also supports drag-and-drop rearrangement and page, Web or file destinations. Check the runtime for the selected build: the linked README mixes newer Java 9+ dependency text with older Java 6+ installation instructions.
Strengths
- Offers graphical and command-line bookmark editing.
Watch out for
- The linked README gives conflicting Java minimums in newer and older sections.
Best for
- Adding navigation to an existing long PDF
