What it does

Sovos combines indirect-tax calculation, filing, electronic invoicing and information reporting with existing finance systems. Its products serve different jurisdictions and reporting tasks. For US information returns, 1099 Professional offers annual subscriptions by form volume, with a seven-day trial that excludes final filing and delivery.

Sovos brings several tax-data processes into one platform. Its indirect-tax suite covers determination, electronic invoicing, filing and reporting. Information reporting includes US 1099 work, withholding and specialist reporting products. The selected product and jurisdiction determine which records and outputs the business uses.

A practical example: US information returns

Tax Information Reporting starts with selecting the environment and tax year. Payer, recipient and form data can then be entered individually or imported.

With a Sovos Excel template, open Payers, Recipients or Forms and choose Import > Use a template. Select the data type, upload the file and review the preview before importing. Only one form type can be imported at a time, and the preview displays up to ten rows.

The result matters as much as the upload. Import complete can still mean validation errors need attention. Import complete with issues means only some records imported: download the failed records, correct them and upload them again. Imported records with validation errors are reviewed separately.

After correcting errors and reviewing any taxpayer-identification matching results, the workflow proceeds to printed forms and electronic transmission, with confirmation after processing.

1099 Professional prices and trial

These starting prices cover 100 forms for a tax-reporting-year subscription:

Package Starting annual price
eFile Only US$499
eFile, Print & Mail US$684
eFile, Print & Mail + eDelivery US$714

Subscriptions renew automatically on April 1 unless cancelled. Additional forms incur overage charges, and some direct state-filing services are add-ons.

The seven-day trial lets you import data and run validations. IRS transmission, printing and mailing require a paid subscription. After the trial, the card on file is charged for the selected plan; trial cancellation is handled through Sovos.

Administrators add colleagues through Settings > Users > New user, assign a role and send an invitation. Permissions can differ by environment or tax year. Broader Sovos tax and invoicing deployments have their own commercial scope, separate from these US 1099 Professional packages.

Best for

  • US finance teams preparing information returns from payer and recipient data
  • Tax departments coordinating several jurisdiction-specific reporting products
