What it does
SPEEDCHECK runs Internet connection tests covering download speed, upload speed and latency, with explanatory material about interpreting the metrics.
SPEEDCHECK measures download through several parallel server connections, then reverses the direction using generated random data for upload. Repeated round trips provide its average ping result. These figures describe the device’s path to the test server, so preserve whether the reading used Wi-Fi, Ethernet or mobile data. A later wired result is not an exact repeat of a wireless run. The provider recommends its browser tool for computers and native iOS or Android applications for mobile devices because browser performance can affect the measurement. Compare the separate upload and latency figures when download speed alone does not explain a call or submission problem.
Strengths
- Separates download, upload and latency measurements
- On-page explanation of the metrics
Best for
- A basic browser connection check
