What it does
Spliit is a free shared-expense ledger for friends and households, with web and iPhone access and no required account. It tracks purchases, uneven shares and reimbursements in a group that participants open through a shared link. The MIT-licensed source is also available for running your own instance.
A shared dinner and a private purchase should not have the same participants. Create a group, add the people involved and share its link. For each expense, record who paid, select who shares it and divide the amount equally or by shares, percentages or exact amounts. For example, shares of 2:1:1 can assign half of a booking to one participant and a quarter to each of the others.
The balances show what each person has paid and owes. After someone pays another member back, record a reimbursement; in the iPhone app, a settlement suggestion can be marked as paid. Categories and receipt images keep the explanation beside the expense.
The hosted service and iPhone app are free, without advertisements. On the web, the list of groups is stored in that browser, so save the group links before changing devices. The iPhone app can keep its group list in iCloud. The latest app version requires iOS 26, while older supported devices receive the last compatible version.

Watch out for

- The service does not provide built-in payment integrations or notifications
Best for
