What it does

SplitPro is a free shared-expense service for trips, friends and housemates. Its browser app handles group balances, unequal shares and recurring bills. Quick split works through a shared link without signup, while ongoing groups use an account; the MIT-licensed source can also be self-hosted.

Split a short trip without accounts

Open Quick split, give the trip a title, select its currency and add at least two people's names. For each expense, enter the payer, amount and people it covers. Equal division is the starting point; exclude someone or enter exact shares when the purchase was not for everyone.

Share the trip link so others can add their purchases. The page suggests repayments, and Mark paid records a settlement after the payment has happened.

Keep repeated household costs together

For an ongoing group, sign in with Google or an emailed magic link. Set a default split using equal shares, percentages or share units so new expenses start with the agreed arrangement. Recurring rent or subscriptions can follow daily, weekly, monthly or yearly schedules, and participants can pause or stop the repetition.

Hosted group balances stay separate by currency. If moving from Splitwise, open Account > Import from Splitwise, select the export JSON file, deselect anything to omit, then choose Import. This brings friends, groups and their balances, but not individual past expenses.

Strengths

  • Group expenses can include receipt photos.
  • The self-hosted edition can run on an independent server, with optional currency conversion configured for that installation.

Watch out for

  • Anyone with a Quick split link can view and edit that trip.

Best for

  • Housemates splitting repeated bills in unequal proportions
