What it does
SRecord manipulates EPROM load files through command-line tools. It reads and writes many binary and hexadecimal representations and provides conversion, comparison, information, and filtering operations.
Use srec_cat to combine inputs or transform their address ranges with crop, exclude, fill, offset and other filters, then write a chosen output format. Input and output default to Motorola S-Record; an output filename or standard output is selectable. Some formats are directional, including output-only C arrays and Lattice memory files. Conflicting values at one address are fatal by default, while duplicate identical values produce warnings. Separate comparison/info tools inspect load data, and a shared library exposes formats/filters. The GNU GPL suite builds on Unix and Windows.
Strengths
- Combines format conversion with filtering and comparison tools.
Watch out for
- Some supported formats are input-only or output-only.
Best for
- Embedded developers preparing firmware load files
