What it does
Stata combines data management, statistical analysis, visualization and automated reporting. It supports time-series and panel-data work, forecasting, regression and other methods, with imports from business data files or databases and reusable analytical commands.
Stata combines data preparation, statistical models and repeatable reporting. Analysts can keep preparation commands with their models, then regenerate tables and graphs for another reporting period. Its time-series and panel-data tools also support forecasting through commands or an interactive control panel.
Choose the edition and licence separately
The three main desktop editions offer the same statistical methods, with different capacity and processing limits.
| Edition | Main distinction |
|---|---|
| Stata/BE | Intended for midsized datasets |
| Stata/SE | Handles larger datasets |
| Stata/MP | Adds parallel processing and the largest data capacity |
A named single-user licence can cover several computers used by that person; it cannot be shared among colleagues. Annual licences include updates and support during the term. A perpetual licence continues without an expiry date, while later upgrades follow a separate maintenance or purchase arrangement. Network licences serve concurrent users and start at two users at one physical site.
On Windows, the first launch opens Initialize License. Enter the registered name and organisation, then import the supplied .stcodes file or enter the serial number, code and authorisation details. Complete the wizard and check for updates. Stata is also available for macOS and Linux. The order form distinguishes buyer type, location and licence choices, so select those before comparing the available purchase options.
