What it does

Pipette samples screen colours and converts between RGB, CMY, CMYK, HSV, XYZ and TColor values. Portable downloads cover Windows, Mac and Linux. Personal use is free; commercial use needs a paid licence.

Click Pipette, release the mouse, then click the screen colour to capture it. A click-and-drag sampling mode is also available and is recommended for Windows. The captured colour appears simultaneously in the supported numeric models.

Edit one value with the keyboard, step buttons or mouse wheel to recalculate the others. Settings control decimal precision, adjustment steps and the characters added when copying values.

The colour list keeps previous selections. Choose when new colours enter the list, rearrange them with the mouse, then use File > Save Color List. Drag a saved list back into the application to reload it. Commercial licences are obtained from the developer; the free download does not grant unrestricted business use.

Strengths

  • Portable versions cover three desktop operating systems.
  • Saved colour lists can be reloaded by dragging them into the app.

Watch out for

  • Commercial use requires a paid licence.

Best for

  • Users moving colour references between applications and formats
