What it does

SunCalc displays the sun’s path, daylight phases, altitude, azimuth and shadow information for a selected location and date.

SunCalc links a chosen place/date and time slider to solar phases, altitude, azimuth and shadows. The yellow path represents the day, while its surrounding band shows variation through the year; mouse or arrow keys move the time. Shadow length depends on object height in m. Current data, day data and map print options retain different views. The developer reference describes preset links containing coordinates, zoom, date, 24-hour time, object height and map type; its height parameter defaults to 1 m and documents 0.1–8,848 m. This is a link interface rather than a documented data-download API. The site labels its irradiance estimate as excluding clouds and other air pollution, so it is not a weather forecast.

Strengths

  • Map-based solar path and daylight phases
  • Altitude, azimuth and shadow-length information

Best for

  • Planning a location-dependent daylight question
