What it does
Apple Hide My Email supplies random forwarding addresses through two workflows: supported Sign in with Apple signups and iCloud+ aliases that can be copied into other forms.
Hide My Email has two related routes. A supported Sign in with Apple signup can create an address for that app or site, restricted to its designated senders. With iCloud+, a user can also create a random address independently and copy it into a web form. The paid alias feature is therefore broader than Apple sign-in alone.
For an iCloud+ address, the documented web workflow is:
- Open Hide My Email on iCloud.com and create an address.
- Add a label and optional note identifying its purpose.
- Copy the address where it is needed.
The iCloud+ guide says these random addresses share one forwarding destination, chosen from addresses associated with the Apple Account. Account two-factor authentication is required to create one.
Strengths
- iCloud+ addresses can be created independently of a Sign in with Apple signup.
- Labels and notes help identify the purpose of an alias.
Watch out for
- iCloud+ aliases share one forwarding destination rather than a separate destination for each alias.
Best for
- Apple Account users who want to keep a personal address off signup forms
