What it does

SurveyMethods combines survey design, page logic, quotas and reporting. Rules can use answers or stored respondent fields to choose a page, show a message or redirect to another survey, with paid plans adding progressively broader controls.

Keep SurveyMethods page logic separate from the action attached to a quota. A quota counts completed responses and can act when its limit is reached. A quota-based page rule evaluates at that point in the questionnaire, so it can skip an incentive question before the respondent finishes.

To add a rule, choose Add Page Logic on Survey Design, select Questions, Quotas or Custom Fields, then define the condition and action. Use Add Condition for another test and select AND or OR. Choose Save, then Exit to return to the questionnaire. Groups run from the top down, and the first matching group's action takes precedence.

A redirect to another SurveyMethods survey needs a destination that has been launched and is open. A closed destination shows its closed message instead of accepting the follow-up response.

Account choices

Plan Response capacity Relevant features
Basic 15 per survey across three surveys Free forever; up to 50 questions per survey
Advanced 500 per month or 10,000 per year, according to billing Question-based page logic and unlimited surveys
Professional 750 per month or 30,000 per year, according to billing Field-based logic, quotas and unlimited API calls
Enterprise Custom arrangement Collaboration, integrations and advisory services

Use Get Started to create the account. Monthly and annual subscriptions have different response allowances; compare the collection period as well as the plan name. Only completed responses count toward quotas, and conditional quotas do not count submissions collected before that quota was created.

Strengths

  • Rules can use answers, stored fields or quota status
  • Group ordering makes the first matching action explicit

Watch out for

  • A follow-up survey must be launched and open to accept redirected respondents
  • Conditional quotas exclude responses collected before the quota was created

Best for

  • Researchers combining respondent routing with controlled collection quotas
