What it does

SurveyRock builds surveys with distribution, reporting and feedback workflows. Carry forward uses earlier choices as later answer options or matrix rows, adjusting them when a respondent changes an answer. Free supports small surveys with 100 monthly responses; paid plans add logic, collaboration, larger allowances and integrations.

In a later SurveyRock question, open Carry forward, select a question on an earlier page and choose Selected, Unselected or All. Save the setting. A matrix receives the carried items as rows and keeps its own answer columns; its manually entered rows return if carry forward is removed.

An empty carried set hides the target. Changing an earlier answer removes target answers for items no longer carried. Results retain the matrix structure, including row-based CSV output.

Existing users should check Yes/No rules created before 10 September 2026. A fixed builder defect left some older rules without a comparison value. If one shows Select instead of Yes or No, choose the intended value and save. Newly created rules are unaffected.

Free allows three surveys with ten questions each. Solo adds survey logic and API access; paid plans offer monthly or annual billing and additional response bundles. Agency labels refer to these same tiers.

Strengths

  • Carried choices can become matrix rows while preserving the target's columns
  • Revising an earlier answer removes selections that no longer apply

Watch out for

  • Survey logic is available from Solo; it is not included in Free

Best for

  • Researchers asking follow-up ratings only about items a respondent selected
