Choose swirl when you want practice to happen in the same console where you use R. Its self-paced format brings instruction into the programming environment. Keep your own notes on successful commands so completing a lesson also builds a useful personal reference. Install R and the swirl package, start it from the R console and select a course. RStudio is recommended rather than required. Responses can be console commands, multiple-choice or fill-in answers, with correctness feedback, hints and saved progress. The package metadata specifies MIT licensing.
