What it does
Sysdig Monitor is a cloud-native monitoring service for Kubernetes, containers, Prometheus, and supported cloud infrastructure. Its managed Prometheus service provides storage, service discovery, dashboards, alerts, and PromQL support, while Kubernetes views help operators move from an alert to pod details, logs, and remediation guidance. Teams can send data through Sysdig's Shield components or use Prometheus Remote Write in environments where those components are not available. It is aimed at platform teams that need operational visibility across clusters and cloud workloads, rather than a general-purpose incident-management system.
Choose how telemetry reaches the service
Sysdig Monitor is designed around cloud-native workloads. A Kubernetes team can deploy the documented Cluster Shield and Host Shield components to collect system metrics and events, or send Prometheus data through Remote Write when the Shields are not an option. Keep the distinction in mind: the Remote Write path does not provide all the system-metric and extended-context features available through the Shields.
Once data is flowing, the managed Prometheus service supplies automatic service discovery, built-in dashboards and alerts, and compatibility with PromQL and existing Grafana dashboards. For an illustrative incident, not a hands-on test, a team could use an alert to locate an unhealthy pod, inspect its details and live logs, then follow the suggested troubleshooting steps. This makes the product useful for narrowing an infrastructure problem; it does not replace application-level tracing or an on-call workflow.
Sysdig lists cloud-native monitoring under host-based or time-series-based licensing and asks buyers to request a quote. Custom time-series usage is measured hourly against the subscription entitlement; the billing documentation describes monthly overage calculation using the 95th percentile of hourly usage above entitlement. Teams should understand their agent and series footprint before estimating ongoing costs.
Strengths
- Managed Prometheus includes automatic service discovery, dashboards, alerts, PromQL, and support for existing Grafana dashboards.
- Kubernetes views combine pod details and live logs with monitoring data for a more directed troubleshooting path.
- The product supports cloud-native metrics collection through Sysdig components or Prometheus Remote Write.
Watch out for
- The Remote Write collection path does not expose all features available through the Sysdig Shields, including system metrics and extended label context.
- Pricing is quote-based and uses host- or time-series-based licensing; custom time-series usage can incur overages when it exceeds entitlement.
Best for
- Platform teams monitoring Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native services with Prometheus-compatible metrics.
- Operators who want Kubernetes troubleshooting details alongside metrics, dashboards, and alert rules.
