What it does
Talisman is a free self-custodial wallet with mobile apps, a browser extension and a unified multichain portfolio. It supports Ledger connections and local wallet creation without a hosted registration account.
Talisman groups holdings across supported networks into a common portfolio, so following Ethereum, Bittensor, Solana and Polkadot does not require treating each as a separate wallet display. Accounts can also be organized into folders and portfolios.
The extension starts with a local password and an analytics preference, then lets you name and create an Ethereum or Polkadot account. Back up its phrase before depending on the installation. In expanded view, Settings leads to Recovery Phrase; in the small view, use More and Backup Wallet. Choose the backup entry, acknowledge the warning and enter the wallet password to verify the words. Finish the phrase check with Complete Verification.
An important exception affects some older mobile accounts. The September 6, 2026 release notes report that some Substrate accounts had been created incorrectly from their recovery phrase. The updated app flags affected accounts and provides a guided replacement-account flow. Existing mobile users should check for that notice rather than assuming that an app update alone has repaired every account.
A JSON account export is not a replacement for its phrase: losing the export's password without the phrase can leave the funds inaccessible. Keep that distinction in mind when importing accounts from another wallet.
The wallet download is free. Network fees, staking commissions and third-party service charges still apply. Talisman's terms require legal capacity and lawful access. Its real-world-asset tokens, which represent exposure to traditional investments, have additional restrictions covering the United States, United Kingdom and European Economic Area, among others. These restrictions concern that token service, not a statement that every local wallet feature is unavailable there. Staking and other investments can lose value, and withdrawal timing depends on the chosen network or provider.
Strengths
- An address book stores repeat recipients
- Mobile token selection can be filtered by network
- Ledger support provides a separate signing-device option
Watch out for
- The published source license restricts commercial reuse and redistribution
- Password-protected account exports do not preserve the recovery phrase itself
Best for
- People organizing accounts across several supported blockchain families
- Users who want a shared portfolio view with independent hardware signing
