What it does

Tandoor is an open-source recipe manager with shared cookbook spaces, meal plans and shopping lists. It supports recipe imports, ingredient-based search and a choice between self-hosting and hosted plans.

A shared space is the useful starting point for a family collection. Invite people into the cookbook, choose access permissions and add recipes through the editor or web importer. Ingredient-based search helps when you want to cook from food already on hand, while shopping lists can follow the order of a supermarket.

Meal plans can be built manually or automatically and exported to a calendar. Hosted access ranges from a small free collection to paid plans with different member and storage allowances. Self-hosting is a separate option for someone prepared to maintain it. The distinction matters: collaborative cooking features do not remove the need to choose how the service will be hosted and backed up.

The hosted free plan allows one member and ten recipes, with no recipe-file uploads. Paid plans change those limits. The FAQ says cancellation keeps the plan active to the end of the paid period and gives at least ninety days afterwards to export recipes.

Strengths

  • Shared spaces and permissions support collaborative recipe collections.
  • Ingredient search, grocery lists and calendar export connect planning tasks.

Watch out for

  • Hosted plans have recipe, member or storage limits depending on the level.
  • Self-hosting requires ongoing maintenance.

Best for

  • Families or groups building a shared recipe collection and meal plan.
