What it does
tastytrade provides securities platforms, options backtesting, risk analysis and developer interfaces. Backtesting examines a strategy against historical data; Visual Risk Analysis tests scenarios for queued trades and current positions. Educational courses and platform tools support both tasks.
Backtesting applies entry and exit rules to more than ten years of historical prices, volatility and time decay. Compare cumulative profit and loss with drawdowns, keeping the rules and period consistent. The results describe hypothetical past performance. Visual Risk Analysis instead examines price moves, volatility changes and expiring positions in the current portfolio.
Backtesting is included with a tastytrade account without a separate subscription or data add-on. It runs through my.tastytrade.com and the desktop platform, but is unavailable in the mobile and tablet apps. Developers can also create backtests and retrieve results and logs through an API.
For stock options, the published commission is US$1 per contract to open, capped at US$10 per leg, with zero closing commission. Clearing and regulatory fees still apply. Broad-based index options and futures options have different terms, including exclusions from that cap. Use Open an Account and the account-type and country guidance to establish the appropriate brokerage access before funding.
