What it does

TaxCalc provides accounts production, tax and practice tools for UK accounting firms. Its accounts workflow imports trial balances from products including FreeAgent, Xero and QuickBooks.

TaxCalc’s accounts-production workflow begins with a trial balance from Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or a CSV file. You can reuse CSV mappings, review postings, edit report notes and send journals or adjustments back to the connected bookkeeping product. Reports export to Word, Excel, PDF and, for supported accounts, iXBRL.

That makes it useful to a UK practice moving from routine bookkeeping into year-end accounts. The interface separates Posting, Notes, Reports and Check and Finish; drill-down links help trace a reported figure to its underlying posting. Tax Return Production and practice-management tools are separate parts of the wider range.

Accounts Production is priced by client band and included concurrent users:

Client band Included users Published annual price
12 1 GBP 164
50 2 GBP 368
150 2 GBP 744
250 2 GBP 885
500 2 GBP 919
1,000 2 GBP 1,050

The practice suite has a 14-day trial; Engager has a separate 28-day trial. Smaller practices can buy online, while larger or mixed-module configurations can request a quote. Compare the required modules and simultaneous users before choosing a band.

Strengths

  • Imports trial balances and exports adjustments through supported bookkeeping integrations
  • CSV mappings can be reused across imports
  • Financial statements export in several document formats

Watch out for

  • Accounts Production bands limit client numbers and included concurrent users
  • Tax returns and wider practice tools need their own product selection

Best for

  • UK accounting firms producing client accounts and returns
