What it does
Camtasia Snagit is TechSmith’s screen-capture and recording application for Windows and macOS. It combines scrolling screenshots, callouts, redaction, reusable themes and a Step Capture workflow for turning a sequence of actions into a guide. A 15-day trial is available, after which continued use requires a paid licence.
For a capture with exact dimensions, open the Capture window's Image tab, select Region and open Selection Properties. Fixed region accepts a width and height in pixels; Set Position adds X and Y coordinates. Inside the editor, objects and selections are moved and resized with the mouse rather than numeric fields.
Themes apply a shared set of annotation colours, fonts and styles. Arrows and callouts mark the captured interface, while Smart Redact can blur or block recognized sensitive fields. Scrolling capture combines the extended contents of a page into one image.
Step Capture records clicks as a numbered guide. After capture, its steps and annotations can be edited, then shared by link or exported to Word or PowerPoint. The same sequence can be opened in the separate Camtasia Editor to make a video.
The standard Snagit trial provides the full application for 15 days, followed by paid access. The trial requires a TechSmith account but no card. Its download terms restrict it to evaluation and review on one computer, excluding commercial use and training.
