What it does
Scale is Telekom’s digital design system with customizable components and design resources. Its official repository distinguishes protected Telekom branding from a neutral open-source package.
Scale provides Telekom’s interface components, with a separate neutral distribution for products using another brand. That distinction matters: the open-source code does not grant unrestricted use of Telekom’s magenta branding, fonts, icons, header or footer.
For a neutral setup with dark-mode support, install @telekom/scale-components-neutral@next. Load its CSS, import defineCustomElements from the package’s loader and call it with window to register the Web Components. A plain HTML setup is also documented, and React has a neutral proxy package.
The deprecated Angular and Vue wrapper packages were removed in October 2026. Those frameworks should use the Web Components directly; design tokens now live in the independent @telekom/design-tokens package. The repository still describes Scale as an open beta.
The neutral packages are free under MPL 2.0 and can be installed without an account. If you work directly from repository files instead, follow its list of protected Telekom asset folders to remove when creating a non-Telekom version.
Strengths
- A neutral distribution provides an explicit route for non-Telekom products.
- Plain HTML and framework projects can use the same Web Components.
Watch out for
- Telekom branding and design assets require separate permission for commercial use.
- Scale is still described as an open beta.
Best for
- Teams evaluating Telekom’s component approach with appropriate branding
