What it does
Nessus is a vulnerability scanner for identifying missing patches, configuration issues and other weaknesses across supported systems and applications.
Nessus is useful when a defender needs a structured assessment of known assets. Its official page describes finding missing patches and misconfigurations across operating systems, devices and applications. Define scan scope and maintenance expectations with the asset owners before beginning. A finding should lead to an assigned remediation and a later check, rather than an unreviewed report. Nessus editions are one scanner family here; the wider Tenable exposure-management service has a different organizational role.
