What it does
Tencent Cloud Serverless Cloud Function, or SCF, runs code on demand and scales its execution resources without requiring customers to buy or manage servers. Developers can create event-triggered or HTTP-triggered functions, upload source and dependencies, and connect triggers such as timers, object storage, or API Gateway. The service includes console editing and testing, while the Serverless Cloud Framework and Tencent Cloud APIs provide programmatic deployment paths. Resource use, invocations, and outbound traffic are separately metered.
Select a trigger, package the code, then inspect the invocation
The official SCF guide describes two function types: event-triggered functions and HTTP-triggered functions. A developer can create a function in the console or use Serverless Cloud Framework, upload code, and configure a trigger such as a timer, API Gateway, or Cloud Object Storage event. The console can simulate an event and display the function result and execution log. If the function depends on third-party packages, the guide warns that those dependencies need to be packaged and uploaded with the code.
This makes SCF a fit for file processing, scheduled jobs, and small web or mobile backends that already use Tencent Cloud services. Its HTTP mode accepts web requests directly, while event mode is designed around structured trigger messages. The service can also connect to a VPC when it needs to reach a Tencent Cloud database or virtual machine in the same network.
Billing is postpaid and includes resource time, invocations, and network egress; the official pricing guide shows region-dependent outbound traffic charges. Tencent's getting-started guide says new users receive a monthly free tier during the first three months after activation, but the accessed pages do not establish its exact quota. Creating functions also requires a Tencent Cloud account, identity verification, and service-role authorization. No function was created or invoked for this listing.
Strengths
- Supports both event-triggered and HTTP-triggered function types, with triggers for services including timers, API Gateway, and object storage.
- The console can simulate an event and show the returned value and execution logs.
- Developers can use the console, Serverless Cloud Framework, or Tencent Cloud APIs to create and deploy functions.
Watch out for
- Third-party dependencies must be packaged with the uploaded code when they are not already available in the runtime.
- Outbound network traffic is billed separately and varies by region.
Best for
- Processing uploaded files or scheduled events within Tencent Cloud.
- Adding HTTP-triggered serverless endpoints to a web or mobile backend.
- Connecting event functions to Tencent Cloud storage, databases, queues, or API Gateway.
