What it does

DesignDoll is a Windows drawing-reference program with blended body proportions, pose and hand controls, multiple figures and adjustable perspective. Its Free edition has no expiry; Pro adds saved-project loading and OBJ export.

Body shape comes from blending model forms and scaling parts, so a figure can follow the proportions of a drawing style. Hand controls, multiple figures and imported objects help construct a reference beyond a single standing mannequin.

The practice guide builds a seated pose through the Pose tag. Rotate the camera, drag the chest and shoulders, then disable shoulder linking before arranging the arms. The mini-view helps judge depth when the main view faces the figure. Box-select the upper body and hips, then move the mini-view's depth controls back and down to seat the figure. After positioning the legs, select the upper-body controls and Ctrl-click the hip to exclude it. Moving that selection shifts the upper body's weight. Finish by checking the face, wrists and ankles from other angles and adjusting the hands.

Free access includes proportion changes, hand controls, multiple models and reference-image creation. Reopening saved TWD projects, exporting OBJ and downloading Doll-Atelier models require Pro. The publisher's current one-time sale offers US$79 through its USD PayPal payment option.

The product licence permits publishing your own works made with the supplied model materials, with a separate restriction on trademark or logo use. Registration may cover your own computers, but only one may run the software at a time.

Strengths

  • Body-form blending and part scaling support stylised reference proportions.
  • Grouped controllers and the depth mini-view help adjust body balance without moving every joint separately.

Watch out for

  • Loading saved TWD projects and exporting OBJ require Pro.
  • The program is Windows-only, and one licence cannot run simultaneously on multiple computers.

Best for

  • Illustrators arranging stylised bodies and seated poses
  • Drawing practice that needs adjustable hands, perspective and multiple figures
