What it does
Thawani Pay is an Oman-focused wallet with prepaid cards, utility payments, mobile top-ups and transfers. Use of the wallet application is free, although individual products and transactions can carry charges. A registered account is required for payments.
The prepaid-card balance is loaded from the main balance, so the two records have different roles when following a purchase. A Mojab Personal card can be ordered for delivery, and its details are available in the app. Load it from a bank card, then spend the amount available on the prepaid balance and follow the resulting transactions. Thawani says a bank account is not needed for this card.
Transfers can use a mobile number, alias or QR code. The app also compares car-insurance quotes from local providers and handles traffic-fine payments. These are separate services, so review the applicable charge before authorizing one rather than treating free wallet access as a promise of free transactions.
The terms require users to be at least 18 and have a valid mobile number. Registration creates the account credentials and payment PIN. Statements are available in the app; Thawani asks customers to report discrepancies within 15 days of the transaction. Its iPhone app requires iOS 15.6 or later.
Strengths
- Mojab Go supports shared-expense groups of up to ten members, with group tracking and spending limits.
- Sama gives employees of participating organizations access to their employer’s offers in the app.
Watch out for
- Under Thawani’s terms, an authorized payment instruction cannot be reversed without its approval.
Best for
- People in Oman managing household payments from a mobile wallet
- Families or other small groups sharing a prepaid spending balance
