What it does
Noun Project Photos is a curated stock-photo collection with themes such as office life, medicine, friendship and textures. It offers free downloads alongside individual photo purchases and a Noun Pro Plus subscription.
The photo search sits alongside subject collections, including Copy Space and Flat Lays, which are useful when the photograph needs to leave room for a headline. Downloads come as JPGs with different size choices. Noun Pro Plus includes unlimited standard photo downloads and permission to crop, edit and make derivatives without attribution. The basic icon subscription does not include the photo add-on automatically.
The free photo licence needs particular attention: CC BY-NC-ND requires photographer credit, limits use to noncommercial purposes and prohibits derivatives. Public-domain photographs are a separate designation. Paid noncommercial and commercial licences grant different rights, and a photo marked Editorial Use Only cannot be used commercially. Photos also cannot be included in redistributed digital templates, even if the template is free.
Strengths
- Subject collections include layout-oriented choices such as Copy Space.
- Individual purchases and a photo-inclusive subscription suit different download needs.
Watch out for
- The free Creative Commons photo licence excludes commercial use and derivatives.
- Editorial-only photos and redistributed templates have additional restrictions.
Best for
- Designers looking for curated people and lifestyle photography
