What it does

thirty bees is a free ecommerce platform with multistore administration, checkout choices and order documents. It grew from a PrestaShop 1.6 fork and now maintains its own releases and modules. Merchants operate the software on their own compatible hosting.

thirty bees is especially relevant to an established PrestaShop 1.6-style shop. Its project began from version 1.6.1.11 and describes compatibility with most modules from that generation. That history provides a migration starting point; it does not verify an individual shop's extensions.

The merchant tools include one-page or five-step checkout, several storefronts under one administration panel, product filtering and PDF invoices or delivery slips. An established specialist retailer can keep those operating needs in view while choosing which modules to retain.

Manage the catalogue deliberately

Product controls distinguish whether an item is enabled, where it appears and whether customers can order it. Those are separate choices: hiding a product from catalogue browsing is not the same action as disabling purchases.

The product editor also separates ordinary prices from specific prices. Specific prices can apply over selected dates, to customer groups or at quantity thresholds. A trade discount and a temporary consumer sale can therefore be modelled separately. Product types cover ordinary goods, packs and virtual items.

Installation and ongoing cost

The current download is version 1.7.0, released in July 2026. Choose a package compatible with the server's PHP version; the main download requires PHP 7.4 or later. The installer checks the environment, collects the database details and creates the first administration account. Keep the resulting Back Office address for future sign-in.

The software is free to use under its published licences, including OSL-3.0 material. Hosting, specialist modules and paid support remain separate. The Cloudways route is a hosting trial, not a promise of permanently free managed hosting. Before migrating, verify the actual theme, payment modules and checkout behaviour the shop depends on.

Strengths

  • Multistore administration and order documents suit established merchant workflows
  • Product visibility, ordering and specific-price controls address distinct catalogue needs

Watch out for

  • Download packages must match the server environment
  • Compatibility with a particular legacy module still requires verification

Best for

  • Merchants reviewing a maintained route from a PrestaShop 1.6-era store
