What it does
ThredUp sells second-hand clothing and offers a Clean Out service for women's and children's clothing and accessories. The service handles inspection, photography, pricing and listing, then pays a share when an item sells.
ThredUp's Clean Out route suits someone who would rather send a group of eligible clothes than photograph and list every piece. The company inspects and measures items, creates images and handles the listings. Payout eligibility is narrower than acceptance: some low-resale-value brands do not earn a payout under the stated conditions. Men's clothing and several other categories are excluded. Start with the Clean Out guide and the items accepted, then compare Standard, Premium and donation routes. A consignment arrangement also means payment depends on a sale; sending a bag is not the same as accepting an immediate purchase offer.
The Clean Out page also explains the unsold-item decision. Items can be reclaimed during the final seven days of their consignment window, with reclaim and return-shipping charges. Standard and Premium have different listing periods and price-edit allowances. Check those terms before sending something you may want back, rather than treating acceptance as a guaranteed payout.
