What it does

Toshl Finance is an expense and budget tracker with manual entry, file imports and optional bank connections. It compares spending across periods and breaks it down by category, tag or location. The free plan supports two financial accounts and two budgets on the web, iOS and Android.

For a cash-heavy week, record purchases as they happen and tag them consistently. The monthly view compares the amount spent with the time elapsed, while category and tag breakdowns answer more specific questions about where the money went.

Bring in existing transactions

Open Import in the web app, choose or drag in a file and select its destination account. Toshl accepts eight formats, including CSV, Excel, OFX, QFX and QIF. CSV and Excel imports show a preview so you can match columns to Toshl's fields and check the date format. Imported data then synchronizes to the mobile apps.

When matching income and expense entries suggest a transfer, Review entries lets you confirm it. This is useful when bringing in histories from more than one account.

Free, Pro and Medici

Plan Price in the US iPhone App Store Included access
Free No charge Two accounts, two budgets, manual entry, file imports and CSV export
Pro US$2.99 monthly or US$19.99 annually Unlimited accounts and budgets, repeating entries, reminders, receipt photos and additional export formats
Medici US$4.99 monthly or US$39.99 annually Pro features plus automatic bank synchronization

Toshl requires an account. Direct website trials for Pro and Medici last 30 days, require payment details and bill when the trial ends unless cancelled; store and regional terms may differ.

For bank feeds, search the institution on the Bank connections page before selecting Medici. Some connections update automatically, while others require a fresh authentication code. File imports remain an option when a bank feed is unsuitable.
