What it does
Trenitalia’s passenger site searches Italian train journeys across Frecce, Intercity and regional services. It also provides trip management, train tracking, passes and service-specific information, including different child-fare rules.
The Main solutions filter does more than sort a complete list. Trenitalia explains that it includes direct services and selected connections based on duration, changes and distance, and may omit some connecting options close to another departure. Compare the specific train-type filters or advanced search when you are investigating alternatives.
For a family booking, open the child information rather than applying one age rule to every service. The site distinguishes national, regional and international arrangements, with regional exceptions. After booking, Manage/Monitor trip provides ticket lookup and train tracking using the relevant code or train details. Keep the reservation code with the itinerary so those later checks use the actual booked journey.
Strengths
- Explains how the main connection filter selects journeys
- Provides ticket lookup and train monitoring alongside booking
Watch out for
- The Main solutions filter can omit some connecting alternatives, so it is not an exhaustive list of every possible journey.
Best for
- Travellers comparing Italian train types and connections
