What it does

Triodos Bank's UK app manages account payments, payees, card settings and personal details. Its QR reader can approve Internet Banking access on a computer. The personal current account costs £3 a month and is available to UK residents aged 18 or older.

Opening and using the current account

In the Triodos app, choose Open an account, select the account type and verify your email. The application asks for an identity-document photo and a selfie video before you complete your details.

The personal current account costs £3 a month. Standard UK Faster Payments, standing orders, Direct Debits and ordinary UK card payments have no additional transaction charge. A CHAPS bank transfer costs £20; foreign-currency card payments and cash withdrawals carry a 2.5% charge. Triodos does not offer an arranged overdraft on this account.

A computer login approved by your phone

Select Log in with mobile app on the Internet Banking login page. Open the app's QR reader on a second device, scan the code, authenticate and tap confirm. Once app access is set up, the previous digipass is deactivated.

Account payments and card limits

For an account-payment limit change, open More → Account Settings, choose the account and its daily-limit setting. Temporary increases take at least four hours and can last up to seven days. The maximum temporary daily limit is £3 million for a personal current account or £2 million for savings.

Card controls sit separately under More → Cards. The default cash-withdrawal limit is £300 a day; it can be temporarily raised to £500. Increases above a default card limit wait four hours, while reductions take effect immediately.

Strengths

  • App QR approval for browser banking
  • Separate account-payment and card-limit controls
  • Instant reductions to debit-card limits

Watch out for

  • Personal current accounts carry a £3 monthly fee
  • Higher payment and card limits need a waiting period
  • The current account has no arranged overdraft

Best for

  • UK residents using both phone and browser banking
  • Account holders adjusting card limits before larger purchases
